The Upper World, or the Dream World is an overworld in Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation.

Story[edit]

The world in which the Hero begins his journey to find and defeat Murdaw.

The Dream World's construction is based on the thoughts and memories of those living in the Lower World at the present time. These memories manifest in the form of spiritual beings, living as their creators imagine them to be. This also means that if a person with memories of a loved one should perish, the spirit connected with that person will fade from existence as well.

Given his blind hatred of all things good, the poweful demon called Mortamor intended to re-fashion all worlds, real or imagined, as subjects to his tyranny. To accomplish these ends, Mortamor sent his strongest minions, the four great Dread Fiends, to place seals over any perceived threats to his plan. Thus, the sealed memories took the form of massive tears in the fabric of the Dream World. Furthermore, Mortamor created his own twisted version of the Dream World in the form of the Dread Realm, a dark and evil dimension he ruled supreme upon with an iron-fist.

Following the defeat of evil tyrant by the hands of the Hero and his party, the two reality planes of Dream World and Real World ended up physically separating from one another, with only the massive floating castle of Cloudsgate Citadel, later becoming known as Zenithia, remaining present in the Real World, seemingly acting as the last connection between the two planes of existence.
