The liquid metal shield is won as a prize from the tombola booth that opens up next to the nun at Cloudsgate Citadel after you defeat Xenlon and wish for it. It is theoretically possible to win four or more, though it would take a very long time, as the usual 10-roll gets you 10 green balls (Magic Waters). Fortunately, gold farming at the island west of Moonahan is very easy and quick, and tickets can be bought at Mersea at this point in the game for 777 gold (or 621 with a Loyalty Card).
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen[edit]
The liquid metal shield has a defence bonus of +60 and casts Snub when used as a tool in battle. In the remakes of IV, it also cuts fire and ice breath damage by 40 points. In the NES version, players can obtain the shield for 50,000 coins at Endor's casino, and can only be equipped by Borya, Kiryl, Maya, and Meena. It is the most protective shield in the game, being even stronger than the Zenithian shield. However it is the most expensive shield in the game and requires many hours at the casino Poker game and it costs 200,000 coins total for 4 characters who can equip it.
In the DS, Android, and iOS versions, the liquid metal shield is no longer sold at Endor's casino, but there's only one shield in the game, and it can be only obtained from King Minikin for turning in 52 mini medals. It can now be equipped by Ragnar and Psaro.

The instruction manual for creating the shield, the In Fine Fettle with Liquid Metal, is found in a treasure chest inside the Fortress of Fear.
Dragon Quest Swords[edit]
This shield is generally considered the most difficult item to acquire in the game due to high randomness associated with winning it by playing the tombola game held within Castle Avalonia. Note that the player must win the special prize twice in order to receive it. It increases the Hero's defence by+10 and can be sold for 8,000.
