'''Crushed Ice''' is the name of two distinct abilities in the {{DQSeries}}. In the main series and the ''Heroes'' spinoffs, it is an attack performed with either a spear or staff that launches 3-4 strikes on random targets that inflict ice damage.

In {{DQTact}}, it is an attack that deals a heavy amount of damage to a single enemy and can decrease their defence.

Crushed Ice can be learned by [[Slon the Rook]] at level 26 and costs 28 MP to use. It inflicts 195% potency physical damage to a single enemy and has a chance to lower their defence shortly. Crushed Ice can also be taught to any unit by using an ability scroll, which is received as a reward for completing the seventh stage of the [[Blindfolded Hammerhood]]'s Battle Road during the limited "Scintillating Summer Hols! Swiwear, Waves, and Watermelons!" event.

''[https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/%E3%81%8B%E3%81%A1%E3%82%8F%E3%82%8A Kachiwari]'' is the Japanese term for crushed ice, which are bite-sized chunks of ice that are used in drinks. Although it shares an English name with the staff and spear skill from the main games, the two skills are not related.

For the defence-reducing skill of the same name from Dragon Quest Tact, see Crushed Ice (Dragon Quest Tact).

Crushed Ice is a recurring skill in the Dragon Quest series. It coats the user's staff or spear in ice and launches 3-4 strikes on random targets.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined[edit]

Crushed Ice is learned at rank 8 of the Armamentalist vocation. It costs 18 MP and hits one foe four times with Ice-element blows, each one at 70% of the power of a normal attack for a total of 280%. The critical hit ratio per blow is a quarter that of a normal attack.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies[edit]

This ability is learned with 76 skill points allocated into Staff skill. Each strike is 30% of the character's normal blows, stacking for a potential maximum of 120% damage for 5 MP.

Dragon Quest X[edit]

Crushed Ice can be learned by Priests, Martial Artists, Minstrels, Fortune Tellers, and Death Masters by allocating 76 points into the Staff skill. It launches four strikes on a single enemy that deal 55% damage per hit for a potential total of 220% damage, costing 5 MP to use. Each hit also has a 25% chance of reducing the target's ice resistance.

  • In the Offline version of the game, it can be learned by the Hero and Mjoll through the Staves section of their character builder for 7 skill points.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Serena and Jade learn the ability through the Spears section of their character builder, unlocking it for 16 and 18 points respectively. Jade is able to learn it after her skill panel expands in the second act, while Serena will only be able to learn it in the third act of the game. Instead of random targets it now focuses on one target like in X, pulverizing the foe four times at 90% strength for a total of 360% damage. The bone-chilling skill's tremendous improvement comes at a steep cost, requiring 16 MP to perform.

  • After learning Crushed Ice, Serena is able to help Veronica perform the Pep power Sliceberg when she is pepped up, as long as her sister has already learned Kacrack. Jade is able to perform the Pep power Chillblaze when she is pepped up if the Hero has mastered the Flame Slash skill.
