Erdwin's Shield once belonged to the hero of legend, the late Erdwin. It bears more than a passing resemblance to the Hero's Shield, even featuring a runic inscription that spells out the name "Roto" in English, being the Japanese equivalent of the Erdrick title. The meaning of this similarity is left up to the player's imagination.
