Vince Vanquish (ハンフリー, Humphrey) is a character in Dragon Quest XI.
He is one of the fighters taking part in the Octagonia Masked Martial Arts alongside the Luminary. Together, they are known as the In-Vince-Ibles.
Appearance and CharacterEdit
Vince is a muscular man with tan skin and straight, dark brown hair worn with an orange bandana. The bandana was a gift from the orphans he takes cares of and is his prized possession.[1] His eyes are constantly shut. He wears an open purple vest with a gold closure on the front which shows off his muscular build, a black weightlifting belt, a leather belt, and a green rope belt around his waist, loose blue trousers with an orange cloth tied around it, and red leather boots. He also wears a gold necklace with a red gemstone, white cloth wraps around his wrists, red leather gloves, and metal bands around his biceps. In combat, he fights using a pair of claws. During the tournament at Octagonia, Vince wears an ornate white, gold, and red domino mask with a red jewel on the front.
Vince was born and raised in the orphanage at Octagonia and when he grew up, he became a priest since he idolized the priests that raised him and eventually became a fighter in order to raise money to be able to support the orphanage. He is a kindhearted and generous individual, being affectionately referred to as "Uncle Vince" by the children of the orphanage. His personal motto is "do one good deed a day". Despite this, he has a somewhat cynical view towards life and can be obstinate, as he believes that fighting is the only thing he's good at and is the only way he can support the orphanage. Vince became the reigning champion of the previous MMA tournament due to his unique fighting style. He has a tendency to drink a strange concoction called Fighting Juice before important matches, but his reliance on it was actually harming his body.
TriviaEdit
- Vince's backstory of becoming a fighter in order to support an orphanage is based on the real-life story of Mexican wrestler Fray Tormenta, a priest who supported an orphanage for 23 years as a luchador. Tormenta's story has influenced many characters over the years in Japanese video games.
- In the Japanese version of the game, Vince shares his voice actor with Ragnar McRyan and Ishmahri.
- He is 200 cm tall (6' 5") and weighs 90 kilograms (198 lbs).
