The Dark shield is a recurring shield in the Dragon Quest series, first introduced in Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride.
When it first appeared, it was a shield designed specifically for monster companions, but in modern games, it became a jet-black coloured version of the Ogre shield.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]
The Dark shield has a Defence bonus of +37, but can only be equipped by certain monster companions. It casts Absorb Magic when used as a tool in battle. One can be found in the basement of Talon Tower and it can be dropped by Hyperanemons. It can be sold for 4,900 gold coins.
