Coffinwell is a town in Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies.

It is located to the northeast of Stornway within a region which shares its name. The town has many high, stone walls. Its design is similar to that of a fortress, and is shaped like a shield. The mayor's house is the highest house in the town.

The town is named for its role in the plot of Dragon Quest IX. Its residents have contracted a deadly disease which is plaguing the entire town. The sickness is related to the nearby Quarantomb.

Plot

When the player first comes to Coffinwell the inhabitants are being afflicted by a disease. The player, at the request of the Mayor, accompanies Dr. Phlegming; a local archaeologist to the nearby Quarantomb to find the source of the disease. In the Quarantomb the player finds that a Monster, the Ragin' Contagion, is the cause. After the player has defeated it, Coffinwell is no longer affected. However Dr. Phlegming's wife, Catharrina died before the Contagion was destroyed. After her funeral, Catarrhina ghost will appear, and ask the player if they can help Dr. Phlegming's sadness by showing him all the people that he saved.

Detail	Poor old Doug in Coffinwell has had his feelings hurt by his granddaughter, who said he looked like a slugger. He wants you to make him feel better by going just outside town and battering ten of them.
Hint for solution	Sluggers can be found in the Coffinwell region.

Detail	A poet in Coffinwell called Earnest wants you to find him a bolt of Technicolour dreamcloth. Once you've found it, he wants you to present it to the nun in the church, along with a love poem he wrote for her.
Hint for solution	You'll need to make a Celestial skein using 3 Fresh water and 5 Tangleweb. Then make the Dreamcloth using 1 Brighten rock, 3 Grubby bandages, and the Celestial skein. Give it to the nun, then visit Earnest again.

Hint for solution	Defeat a treevil with Stone's Throw. If the beardy weirdy's beard is less than 100 cm long, it will not count toward completing the quest. This quest is repeatable.
