Etymology[edit]
In the original Japanese games, the Firebird is known as (ひくいどり, hi kui dori), which is also the name of a large flightless bird from Australia and Papua New Guinea in the real world believed to be named due to the red wattle on its neck. Its original English translation, Phoenix, is a sacred immortal bird associated with Greek mythology that cyclically regenerates itself or is born again after bursting into flames. Firebirds are mythological creatures that are found in various cultures across the world.
