Effect | Protects wearer from negative status effects and/or elemental damage. |
The Metal King Shield is a recurring shield in the Dragon Quest series which first appeared in Dragon Quest V. As one could guess by the name, it is as durable as metal king slimes and features one directly in its center. It is often one of the most protective shields in the game.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride[edit]
The metal king shield has a defence bonus of +70, and reduces the accuracy of Snooze, Fuddle, Dazzle, and instant death instead of providing protection against magic or breath attacks. It can be acquired in exchange for 43 mini medals (50 in the remakes) at the Medal King's Palace., and can be equipped by the Hero, his son, Sancho, Tuppence, and several monster recruits.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
The metal king shield has +70 defense and +40 style. It also reduces Frizz, Sizz, Bang, and breath damage by 30. The Hero, Carver, Milly, Nevan, Terry, Amos and all slime allies can equip it. It is obtained as a reward for beating the Expert class in the Arena in Slimopolis. Since this class can be challenged only twice, it is possible to obtain only two metal king shields.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The shield possesses the same attributes as in the previous game, and is the reward for amassing 90 mini medals. It can be equipped by all characters save for Maribel. In the original Sony PlayStation version, it was possible to buy an unlimited amount of shields if the player evolved the Immigrant Town into the Premium Bazaar and could be purchased for 10,000 gold. In the Nintendo 3DS version, another metal king shield can be acquired for the first completion of the A Hero's Return DLC Tablet.
- If the metal king shield is equipped along with the metal king sword, metal king armour, and metal king helm when being ranked for the Best Dressed Contest of the Excellence Grading Organisation, they will provide an impressive +50 bonus to style.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]
The Metal King Shield has a defence bonus of +65 and reduces breath damage by 30 points. All characters can equip this shield and in the 3DS port the Hero can change his appearance if he wears it along with the rest of the metal slime equipment.
