Talk:Ramia

Split?[edit]

Empyrea and Lamia/Ramia clearly appear to be different creatures, if similar. I propose the two are split into separate articles.Marandahir (talk) 22:31, 30 May 2016 (CDT)

I agree, but not entirely sure. In Dragon Quest VIII I think it was, it is revealed that Empyrea and Ramia are one and the same. However, it is a more evolved version or something. This is a confusing one. - icysugarspike (talk) 09:28, 31 May 2016 (CDT)
She's the same bird, just with a different look. VIII is big on past game refferences, which is why Ragnar and Torneko show up at Morrie's, so it's not much of a stretch at all. As for her appearance changing, it could be that it's just a plain old redesign to better hide the surprise, or she just changed plumage as she grew older and more powerful. I'm not so sure she's the same bird. "Terry's Wonderland 3D" features both Ramia and Empyrea as separate monsters. They look different as well. Dragon Quest is remarkably consistent where if a monster has the same appearance (or near same appearance) and same color scheme, it's the same monster, otherwise, it's a different monster (The exception are major bosses that have multiple forms that are battled at different times or consecutively). Empyrea and Ramia look very different. They fulfill similar roles in the narrative, but so do Xenlon in Dragon Quest III and Zenith Dragon in Dragon Quests IV and V. Add that in with both appearing in the 3DS remake of Dragon Quest I, and I'd really have to say that they're separate. Marandahir (talk) 23:36, 1 June 2016 (CDT)
Both forms are featured because she has two forms, it's that simple. Players who prefer her falcon shape can use that and vica versa for those that prefer her as a phoenix. Xenlon and ZD have nothing in common at all aside from being powerful dragons that live in floating castles, and neither claims to be the other. Ramia also uses her 8 form in the cinematic movie for the 25th anniversary wii game. That's pretty decisive proof. (Follower of Light (talk) 14:52, 2 June 2016 (CDT))
Sure, I believe you (never played the Playstation-based games, so I'm not an expert on the game like I assume you are). One further question. Joker 2, Terry's Wonderland 3D, and Super Light include a third "Godbird" in the form of the Great godbird. Interestingly, it has the same palette as Empyrea in Dragon Quest VIII, while the monster Empyrea in those games is given a different, orange palette. This all makes me wonder if, like the Eyepod/Heyedra issue, we wouldn't be better off considering a merger of all monsters that share palettes with one another, along with special cases like Ramia here, where it may look different but it's supposed to be the same creature or of the same monster line (another special case – ZapBird/Thunderbird. Thunderbird seems to be a new redesign of the old Monsters series' ZapBird, to bring it into the Firebird/Snowbird/Infernavis line rather than having a unique appearance).
