Dragon Quest VI
Lightning is learned by advancing to rank 3 of the Luminary vocation. Despite all appearances, the skill belongs to the bang family of spells much like the Lightning Slash.
Dragon Quest VII
Lighting was nerfed in the 3DS version, with a new range of 30~50.
Dragon Quest VIII
An enemy only skill, Lightning deals 28~36 damage.
Dragon Quest IX
Lightning grew weaker in IX, dealing only 17~26 damage. Stronger variants debuted, however, as detailed below.
Terrible Lightning
Dragon Quest IX
Dealing 28~43 damage, Terrible Lightning is utilized by Greygnarl, Cumulus vex, and Corvus.
Dragon Quest X
Apocalyptic Lightning
Dragon Quest IX
Two types of A.P. are used in IX; one for the Wonder wyrtles and Greygnarl that deals 162~197 damage, and another for Murdaw which bases its damage range on his level.
For the latter, the calculation is (70 + level^2 / 22) * 0.9~1.1 for a minimum of 162~198 and a cap of 454~555.
