The pointy hat is recurring piece of headwear in the Dragon Quest series. It is typically a low to level hat that provides a decent amount of defence.

Characteristics[edit]

This unusually-designed hat has a rounded dome shape with a pointy tip at the top, somewhat like the shape of a Slime. As it appeared later in the series, the hat became beige-colored with a brown stripe near the top and the tip is colored yellow. Originally it was designed for use by monster companions, but it can also be equipped by other characters who typically cannot wear heavier helmets. In XI, the pointy hat can only be worn by male characters.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

The pointy hat has a defence bonus of +21 and can be equipped by Priests, Gadabouts, and Sages. It can be purchased from Theddon and the shop at the third Treasures n' Trapdoors near the Shrine Jail for 2,300 gold, or otherwise sold for 1,725 gold, and only appears in remake versions of the game. Compared to other games in the series, the pointy hat provides a surprisingly high amount of defence and is the best piece of headwear for Gadabouts.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

The pointy hat has a defence bonus of +3, but reduces style by 2. It can be equipped by Nevan along with the Slime companions, and is sold in Alltrades abbey.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

The pointy hat has a defence bonus of +5, but reduces style by 2. It can be equipped by the Hero, Kiefer, Ruff, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe. Pointy hats can be purchased from Ballymolloy in the past and present.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]
