Etymology
The loin-girder's English name originates from the phrase "to gird up one's loins", an idiom which means to prepare oneself for something demanding or difficult. The phrase originated from the King James version of the Bible in which it literally referred to usage of a belt to keep a person's tunic or cloak on for ease of movement.
