The Loin-girder is a recurring accessory in the Dragon Quest series. It is a waistguard covered in monster fangs and claws that helps make the wearer more sturdy against enemy attacks.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest X[edit]

The Loin-girder has a max HP bonus of +10, a Style bonus of +1, and increases the wearer's Weight by 15. It also gives the wearer a 50% chance to be under the effects of Heavy Charge at the start of battle, which will increase their Weight even further, giving them a better chance to protect weaker allies from being targeted by enemies and preventing the wearer from being moved by enemy attacks themselves as well. The belt can be received as a reward for defeating King Hydra in the Magic Labyrinth.

  • In the Offline version of the game, the Loin-girder now has a max HP and Defence bonus of +10 and a Charm bonus of +1. With accessory synthesis, the max HP or Defence bonus can be increased further.

Dragon Quest Heroes II: Twin Kings and the Prophecy's End[edit]

The Loin-girder increases the wearer's resistance to quake and roar effects by 50%, reaching to a total of 100% once it is fully upgraded. It will also give the wearer a +30 bonus to max HP, as well. The belt can be received as a reward by exchanging 5 mini medals one time or it can be dropped by Golems and Stone guardians.

Etymology[edit]

The loin-girder's English name originates from the phrase "to gird up one's loins", an idiom which means to prepare oneself for something demanding or difficult. The phrase originated from the King James version of the Bible in which it literally referred to usage of a belt to keep a person's tunic or cloak on for ease of movement.
