Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined[edit]

Marshal Lourgh is first encountered when the party inspects one of the large braziers holding green flames, which surround Castle Rucker. He explains that the castle has been raided some days before by a blood-red brigand, who slew many of his men before he was captured and tied to a post in a northern valley to suffer exposure in the elements. He also states that the green flames ward away monsters―the second one goes out, they descend upon the castle like vultures. Speaking to the people of Rucker reveals that Lourgh has taken command of the kingdom in light of the recent death of the King, keeping watch with his entourage of guards and maintaining a strict police state by keeping the castle on high alert.

When the party travels to the valley, they find that the brigand is none other than Prince Kiefer of Estard, now grown into a middle-aged man. Maribel demands a explanation for why he attacked Castle Rucker, stating the Kiefer she knew would never hurt anyone, but the guards set to watch Kiefer return before he can answer her. The erstwhile Prince says that if his old friends trust him then they need to extinguish the green flames surrounding Rucker. Doing so reveals Lourgh and his guards to be monsters in disguise, a hypothermion and dark gryphons. Furious, Lourgh attacks one of the castle denizens before ordering his horde to find the party and kill them. Maribel realizes the purpose of Kiefer's raid on Rucker and Ruff insists they go to his aid immediately. After saving the Prince from being executed by a dark gryphon and a barbatos, Kiefer explains that when he and the Roamers stayed at the castle while travelling, they were ambushed in the night and thrown into the dungeon. Kiefer took up his sword and bought time for his clan to escape, and learned that the Demon King has ordered his forces to kill the Roamers on sight due to their mission to revive the Almighty. Kiefer was confronted by Lourgh and in their skirmish the green torch he carried was extinguished, exposing his true nature. Lourgh then defeated Kiefer and convinced the people of Rucker that he was a bandit, leading to his imprisonment in the northern wastes.

With the party reunited and caught up to speed, Lourgh descends upon the valley with a pair of barbatos for backup. Furious that Kiefer is over the moon to be fighting alongside his old friends instead of taking his threat seriously, beginning the boss fight. Once he is defeated, Lourgh will beseech the Demon King to strike down the humans, venomously telling them that their sins will not go unpunished.
