Defender is a recurring talent in the Dragon Quest Monsters series introduced in Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker. It teaches various defensive skills to the user.

Defender is learned by the Crabid, Jum and Komodo. It grants the following abilities:

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2[edit]

Defender's abilities are very similar to the previous game, but the point requirements have been changed and one new skill has been added. It now grants the following abilities:

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince[edit]

Defender can be learned by Komodos, Leery louts, Shell slimes, Armoured wartoises, Bagworms, Crabids, and Tortoceratopses.

Ability Skill Points Description
Buff 3 Greatly increases the defence of a single ally for 4 to 7 turns.
Heal 10 Restores 28 or more HP to a single ally.
Attack Attacker 20 Damages a single enemy and occasionally lowers its attack for 2 to 5 turns.
Dazzleflash 30 Unleashes a blinding light that lowers the accuracy of enemy attacks for 2 to 5 turns.
Kabuff 50 Increases the defence of all allies for 4 to 7 turns.
Intense Defence 70 Assumes an impenetrable defensive stance that reduces most damage received by 910. Can only be used once per battle.
Midheal 85 Restores 76 or more HP to a single ally.
Selflessness 100 Received all incoming attacks in place of allies for 1 round, but suffers greater damage in doing so.
