Scorch is a powerful breath attack in the Dragon Quest series that spews forth blazing fire on all enemies.

It deals between 150~170 damage in most of its appearances unless noted otherwise before. It is the penultimate Fire Breath skill, only surpassed in power by Hellfire and Hellitosis.

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of SalvationEdit

In remake versions of the game, Scorch is used by Xenlon, as well as Gran Dragon in the GBC version.

Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the ChosenEdit

Appearing in the PSX, DS, and mobile phone remakes, Scorch is used by some of the new enemies in Chapter 6, including Aamon and Foo Yung.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly BrideEdit

Scorch is learned only by certain monster companions such as the great dragon.

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of RevelationEdit

Scorch is learned by Lizzie at level 30 and by Goober at level 90. Other characters can obtain this technique by advancing to rank 7 of the Dragon vocation.

It is also used by Mortamor's second form and Nokturnus.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten PastEdit

In the original Sony PlayStation version, Scorch can only be learned as a Prism peacock at rank 7 or by mastering the Djinn genie vocation. It costs no MP to use.

Scorch's power has been reduced to 130~150 damage in the 3DS version and it is an advanced human vocation skill. It can only be used as a rank 8 Monster Masher or a Hero at rank 3 or higher. However, Scorch can be permanently learned from either of the two aformentioned monster vocations that can learn it.

vis magers, drakulards, drakulords, lumberdraks, warlord weighverns, rotwyrms, hotwyrms, birds of terrordise, and Orgodemir (in his first, second, and fourth forms during the final battle) can use the breath against the party.

Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed KingEdit

Munchie's penultimate breath skills, used when he consumes a piece of Scorching cheese. On the enemy side, it can be used by War gryphon, Dark gryphon, Megalodon, Belial, the Lord of the Dragovians in his Vermillion Dragon form, and his Ultimate Dragon form, as well as Sir Leopold in Memoriam, Dark Servant in Memoriam, Dancing Flame in Memoriam, Dhoulmagus in Memoriam's second form, and Estark in the 3DS version.

Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry SkiesEdit

Scorch is a dangerous Fire-elemental breath attack used by high level enemies in Grottoes, including birds of terrordise, cosmic chimaeras, master moosifers, scarlet fevers, stale whales, and wonder wyrtles. It inflicts around 140~159 damage to the entire party. Almost all Legacy Bosses begin with this attack.

Dragon Quest XEdit

Scorch appears as breath skill that can be used by various monsters, including dragster, hell gladiator, and masqueraider, inflicting around 160 damage to party members. It can also be learned by certain monster companions with the Fire Breath Knowledge skill tree like hacksaurus and small fry by investing 32 skill points.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive AgeEdit

Scorch is an enemy-only skill that can be used by lunar chimaeras and vicious dragon metal slimes. Certain vicious monsters have their breath powered up when faced in the third act, such as green dragons and face invaders. It inflicts around 110 damage to the entire party.

Dragon Quest MonstersEdit

Known as WhiteFire in this game, it is an upgraded form of Scorching. Scorching will grow into WhiteFire when the monster reaches level 30 with 210 HP. WhiteFire can be learned naturally by BattleRex, DarkDrium, DeathMore2, DracoLord2, Dragon, DragonKid, DrakSlime, Gismo, LavaMan, LizardFly, Mirudraas2, NiteWhip, Orochi, Phoenix, Pizzaro, Sidoh, SkyDragon, and StagBug.

Dragon Quest TactEdit

Scorch can be learned by Orochi at level 48, Hybird at level 56, and Slime through Talent Blossoming, costing 81 MP to use. An Ability Scroll for it can be purchased through the Legend League Season 1 Medal Swap Shop for 5,000 medals. It inflicts major Frizz-type breath damage to all enemies in a straight line of three squares in front of the user. Upgrading the ability increases its damage and reduces the MP it costs to use.
