The Merlusc is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first introduced in Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line
It is a purple sea-faring variant of the Maulusc.

Merluscs are monstrous purple sea slug that leaves trails of slime behind it. It has darker purple splotches all over its body, large eyeballs with red irises, and a disgusting tongue lolling from its mouth that is constantly drooling. They were formidable opponents in their first appearance in the NES version of II, being capable of poisoning and putting foes to sleep with their toxin-coated bodies and could even land Critical Hit, but their power has been lessened in all remake versions of the game.
