Wit (ずのうめいせき zunō-meiseki, translated as smart in the Game Boy Color version of Dragon Quest III and in Dragon Quest Monsters 2) is a personality in the Dragon Quest III remakes, in Dragon Quest Monsters 2, in Dragon Quest X, and in Dragon Quest: Monster Parade.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation[edit]

"You are truly gifted… Few are as clever as you…

You are an incredibly quick thinker whose mind moves from one subject to the next with ease…

This makes you a gifted conversationalist, and the life and soul of any party…

Which in turn leads to a slight tendency to try to be all things to all men… Not that this is necessarily a bad thing…

After all, it is only natural to want to be liked, and it cannot be denied that you make people happy…

No, your will to endear yourself is not your true failing…

Your true failing lies in your keen awareness of your own intelligence, and your habit of seeing others as lacking in this respect…

There simmers within you the tendency to belittle or mock people for what you see as their shortcomings…

When someone makes a careless blunder, you invariably manage to stop yourself from saying something…

But deep within your heart of hearts, you secretly pity their clumsiness…

Of course, your silent disdain rarely surfaces…

This is because you are clever enough to realise its potential to wound, and to sadden…

And because of this, you believe that it does not affect your relationships with others…

And on the surface, this would seem to be entirely true…

However, the people around you do notice…

They notice your tendency to wield your intellect as a weapon… Your calculated behavior…

But they would never tell you this…

Because they are clever enough to realise its potential to wound… And to sadden…

Yes… It is true… They are as intelligent as you in that respect… Almost everyone is…

So perhaps you should learn to treat them with a little more respect…

If you do not, your witticisms may come to grate rather than ingratiate…"

In the Dragon Quest III remakes, wit is a personality that improves wisdom growth, but reduces strength and luck growth.

At the start of the game, the hero becomes a wit by receiving the final test of character in the castle. Before leaving the test, the hero must tell the chancellor a king's orders must be obeyed, contradict the first answer and say the orders are not set in stone, and confirm the second answer and saying orders can be ignored. Alternatively, the hero can tell the chancellor a king's orders don't have to be obeyed, confirm that a king's orders can be disobeyed, and again confirm that it's better to do what he sees fit than blindly follow orders.

Other party members have a chance to be a wit when talent scouted at Patty's Party Planning Place, depending on their stat bonuses.
