The Magic Map (ふしぎなちず fushigi na chizu "Mysterious map"), also localized as the Adventurer's map in the remakes of Dragon Quest V, is an item which first appeared in the Super Famicom version of Dragon Quest VI where it served as the map for the Lower World.

This item was removed from the remakes of VI and VII, presumably because in the remakes, you are able to view the map at any time from the very beginning of the game.

This item is not to be confused with the Traveler's Map (たびびとのちず tabibito no chizu) which appeared exclusively in the Super Famicom version of Dragon Quest V, nor is it to be confused with the "World Map" (せかいのちず sekai no chizu) from the Super Famicom version of Dragon Quest VI (which was the map for the Upper World in that game).

Appearances

Dragon Quest III

The Magic Map is found in a treasure chest in the Path of Promise (remakes only). It is the map for most of the game, but once you enter Alefgard, you must use the Pixy Map (ようせいのちず yōsei no chizu) instead. Both maps can be accessed by pressing the R button, depending on which overworld you are in (Super Famicom version).

Dragon Quest V

The Adventurer's map is given to the player by Pankraz at the start of the game, it enables you to view the world map by pressing either the square button (PS2) or the Y button (DS). It is exclusive to the remakes.

This item replaced the Traveler's Map (たびびとのちず) which appeared in the Super Famicom version. The Traveler's Nap could be bought at nighttime at the curiosity shop in Fortuna for 100 gold (the same shop you buy the Wagon) once you had acquired the Zoom spell. You can access this map by pressing the X button when you are using transportation such as the Magic carpet - otherwise, you must access it manually from the menu.

Dragon Quest VI

Only appears in the Super Famicom version, where it serves as the map for the Lower World. It can be found on the floor in B1F of the Lower World's Alltrades' Abbey.

This item is not to be confused with the せかいのちず sekai no chizu "World Map", which is the map for the Upper World). The "world map" can be bought from a merchant for either 3000 gold or 200 gold (if you haggle the merchant) in Haggleton.

Dragon Quest VII

Only appears in the Playstation version, where it was localized as "World Map". It could be found in the Shrine of Mysteries. Once acquired, you can access the map on the overworld by pressing the square button.
