Title Fiery Wings of Legend

Phoenix is a recurring fire-elemental summon in the Final Fantasy series. It appears in Dragon Quest Tact as part of a collaboration event with the mobile strategy RPG War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.

Characteristics

Phoenix regularly takes on the appearance of a large fiery bird with multicolored plumage. It has control over the element of fire and his signature attack is Flames of Rebirth, which revives knocked out party members and deals fire-elemental damage to enemies, though the specifics of these effects vary between games. In the few games where it appears, it's seen as a protective spirit, granting light, warmth, and regeneration. Its appearance in Tact is based on its War of the Visions incarnation.

Appearances

Phoenix made its first appearance in the 1990 game Final Fantasy III and it has continued to appear in some form in every main series game since and even regularly appears in spinoff games, as well.

Etymology

In Greek mythology, a phoenix or phenix (Greek: φοῖνιξ phoinix; Latin: phoenix, phœnix, fenix) is a long-lived bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. According to some sources, the phoenix dies in a show of flames and combustion, although there are other sources that claim that the legendary bird dies and simply decomposes before being born again. According to some texts, the phoenix could live over 1,400 years before rebirth.
