Title Dragon King

Bahamut is a recurring summon, boss, and character in the Final Fantasy series. He appears in Dragon Quest Tact as part of a collaboration event with the mobile strategy RPG War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius.

Characteristics[edit]

Bahamut frequently appears as an enormous dragon with four limbs and a large pair of wings on his back. Through various games, he has had purple, blue, or black scales and different colors for his wings and underside. Occasionally he is depicted with solid red eyes, as well. His signature attack is Megaflare, which fires a concentrated beam of energy at enemies that deals heavy non-elemental magic damage that ignores defense and evasion. He is among the strongest of the summons in each game's storyline and will only be summonable once the player has proven their worth, either by defeating him or rarely, another storyline boss in battle. In the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, there are even more powerful forms of Bahamut. His appearance in Tact is based on his War of the Visions incarnation, where he has dark grey scales and red on his wing membrane, underside, and claws.

Appearances[edit]

Final Fantasy series[edit]

Bahamut made his first appearance in the original Final Fantasy in 1987 as a non-playable character. Although he cannot be fought or summoned, the King of the Dragons nevertheless plays an important role by granting the Warriors of Light a class change after proving their bravery by acquiring a Rat Tail from the Citadel of Trials. Bahamut makes his first appearance as a summon in Final Fantasy III in 1990 where he is first encountered in an unwinnable boss battle, but can be challenged in his lair later in the game. He has gone on to appear in some form in nearly main series game since, either as a summon, boss, or important story character and regularly appears in spinoff games, as well.

Dragon Quest Tact[edit]

Bahamut appears as an S-rank character of the ??? family as part of the limited War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius event on his own banner alongside the Cactuar. He appears as a boss in the Large Battle alongside Shiva, Ifrit, and Phoenix where his attacks include Very Blown Away, Icy Chains, Mirage Breath, Megaflare, and Snowstorm. He will steadily become more powerful with Countdown, gaining more spell power the longer the battle goes on. Bahamut can participate in Mont Leonis's Battle Road as a party member.

Etymology[edit]

Bahamut is named after an enormous sea creature from Pre-Islamic Arabian mythology. On Bahamut's back stands a cosmic ox or beast sometimes called Kuyutha. On the back of Kuyutha, there is a slab of gemstone that an angel stands on top of that carries the earth on its shoulders. In modern times, Bahamut has been reinterpreted as the king of dragons in the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons. Bahamut is a Platinum Dragon and is the King of the Good Dragons, standing in opposition to the malevolent Tiamat, the five-headed Chromatic Queen of Dragons.
