Aquila (イザヤール, Izayāru) is a character in Dragon Quest IX.

He is the Hero mentor at the beginning of the game. He plays a pivotal role in the overall plot of the story. Aquila is the apprentice of Corvus.

ProfileEdit

Aquila is a tall man with bald hair and thick brown eyebrows. His eyes are also brown. Like other Celestrians, he has a halo over his head and large white wings over his back. He wears a sleevless pale blue shawl with red fringes hanging to his waist. From his midriff to his shins is a skirt cover which halfway down is just the thick fringes. Under his shawl and skirt he wears black pants and tank top. From his elbow to his wrist he wears black arm warmers.

Aquila is serious and devoted in his duties as a Celestrian. Because of this, he is stern and strict towards his protegee. Aquila is someone who does what he considers is the best. Despite being a strict mentor, he respects and cares for the well being of the Hero. He holds Apus Major with the upmost respect.

Aquila initially appears to explain to the Hero his new duties as guardian angel of Angel Falls. Together, they fight against a group of monsters that were about to attack Erinn and her grandfather. Once they stop the monsters, Aquila congratulates his protegee and both return to the Observatory. When the Observatory was attacked, Aquila tried to save the Hero as he fell, without success.

After the Hero returns to the Observatory for the first time, Apus Major tells the Hero,that Aquila came down with the other Celestrians to find the fyggs and the Hero. Aquila's whereabouts are still unknown until he appears along with Barbarus to attack the Starflight Express. He takes the seven fyggs which the Hero has been collecting and causes the unconscious Hero to fall out of the train. However, Aquila then takes the fyggs to Apus Major himself.

Later, Aquila appears before King Godwyn and reveals that he has been working undercover against the Gittish Empire. King Godwyn then kills Aquila, prior to engaging in battle with the Hero.

After the game and after Quest #163 "When A Star Wishes Upon You", he becomes available as a party member. During this quest, Pavo requested the Hero to find a prayer pearl. This artifact has the power to change the destiny of a Celestrian. With the help of the goddess Celestria, she sent the Hero to the past, on the day of the last meeting between Aquila and his mentor Corvus. The Hero succesfully gave a confussed Aquila the pearl and return to the present, where he finds an alive Aquila in Angel Falls. It is revealed that thanks to the power of the prayer pearl, Aquila was able to survive the fight against King Godwyn. Now living as a mortal, Aquila willingly joined the party.

Aquila is a level 60 warrior. He is equipped with an Aurora blade, White shield, Aquila's armour, Aquila's trousers, and Aquila's boots.
