CharacteristicsEdit
Moai minstrels are monolithic heads made of purple stone with their faces made up mostly in white with other gaudy colours, a round squeaky nose, exaggerated lips, and a fluffy pink afro like that of a stereotypical clown. When they first appeared, the minstrels were able to boost the attack power of their fellow monsters with a Gritty Ditty and could send parties of adventurers into hysterics by making silly faces before sacrificing themselves with Kamikazee in an attempt to finish them off. In later appearances, they lost their ability to cast the deadly spell, instead opting to crush their enemies alive either with their immense weight or by headbutting them, as well as gaining the ability to breathe out harmful bursts of blinding light from their mouths.
AppearancesEdit
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry SkiesEdit
- The quest to unlock the Luminary vocation, Quest #118: A Star is Born, requires the party to deal a finishing blow to a moai minstrel using the Hot Lick ability from the Minstrel vocation's Litheness skill.
- Moai minstrels are also involved in Quest #120: Your Time to Shine. A character must first boost their Charm with Extreme Makeover and then enrage ten moai minstrels with Eyes on Me before defeating them.
Dragon Quest XEdit
Moai minstrels appeared since the beginning of the game. In battle, they are able to crush enemies with Crackerwhack and breathe out bursts of blinding light, as well as putting characters to sleep with Lullab-Eye.
TriviaEdit
- The exaggerated lip makeup suggests the minstrel part of the name may be a reference to minstrels.
