The Orochi is a many headed monster found in Enix's Dragon Quest III; it and the events surrounding Zipangu and the arrival of Erdrick are based on the Japanese legend of the Yamata no Orochi.

In Dragon Quest III, the Orochi demands the sacrifice of young girls from the village of Zipangu. When Erdrick defeated the Orochi in the Cave Northeast of Zipangu, it dropped the Orochi sword, before retreating through a portal to Himiko's Palace in Zipangu. When it became clear that the Orochi was pretending to be Himiko, Erdrick again fought the Orochi, slaying it and freeing the people of Zipangu.
