Shrine of the Dwarf

The Shrine of the Dwarf[1] is the home of an unnamed Dwarf that lives north of the continent-spanning forest above the Alltrades Abbey and Tower of Transcendence. It is east of the Castle of the Dragon Queen.

AppearancesEdit

Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of SalvationEdit

The shrine is a small, single-room home where the dwarf and his two pet cats take shelter from the freezing winds. The dwarf was a traveling companion of the great Ortega for some time, and scoffs at the notion that his friend could have perished by falling into a volcano.

One of the pet cats will tell the player the location of the Yggdrasil leaves to the south if they respond with a 'yes' to it's question.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D RemakeEdit

The shrine has been expanded to include a forge, and the player will now see the dwarf travelling with Ortega through a flashback. Beyond this the shrine's importance lay in crafting the Auroral Helm; if the player possesses Ortega's helm and a chunk of zenithium ore then the dwarf and Hero with work together to create the ultimate helmet.

TriviaEdit

  • The shrine was named after hobbits in the original Famicom release due to the katakana for "Wa" (ワ) not displaying properly in game's character set and thus dwarf could not be spelled out. This named remained for the 1996 Super Famicom remake and the word hobbit would be used in place of dwarves again in Dragon Quest VII, but all usage of the word ceased once the series received a stronger marketing pushing the West under Square-Enix in 2005 to avoid potential legal issues with the Tolkein estate.
