The Gastropog is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest IX. It is a bizarre hybrid between a snail and a frog.
Characteristics[edit]
Gastropogs are an unusual cross between frogs and snails, having the green spotted skin of an amphibian, but with a large, spiked spiral shell on its back and eyes on tall stalks like a gastropod. They have long tongues poking out of their mouths, which they use to stun their enemies into inaction. It attacks by rolling itself into a ball and tackling opponents with the spikes on their shells. The monsters can also expel a sickening mucus that can slow foes down.
