The Windbraker is a recurring item in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest II as a key item. Its name is a play on windbreaker, an article of clothing designed to resist wind chill and rain.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line[edit]

The cloak is a plot-driving item that must be equipped like an accessory, and is located on the 8th floor of the Pillar of Winds. Although the cloak has no protection benefits, equipping it enables the wearer to benefit from its special capability to jump long distances, which is needed to traverse a massive river dividing two continents. To do so, the player must jump from either apex of the Dragon's Horn towers.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past (Nintendo 3DS)[edit]

Reappearing after a long absence, the Windbraker is an accessory that the Hero, Maribel, Ruff, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe can equip. It increases Agility by +50, and boosts evasion by 33.3%. It is received as a reward for completing the Dave Jones' Locker DLC Tablet.

Dragon Quest of the Stars[edit]

The windbraker appears as a cosmetic top obtainable in the Guided by Rubiss' Light permanent event. It's a purely cosmetic item, with a base Defence of +14 and Agility of +7.

Its appearance is based on the one seen in the Famicom guide for Dragon Quest II.

Dragon Quest Builders 2[edit]

Obtained in Furrowfield after the whole island is swallowed in evil miasma, the windbraker is a key item that allows the Builder to glide. To use it, the builder must jump and have at least 1 blank space under their feet, then press the interact button. While gliding, the attack button can be pressed to perform an aerial attack that elevates the player.

When using the windbreaker, if Malroth is in the party he will cling to the builder's legs. All other human characters will use a windbreaker of their own when following a gliding builder.

Like in Stars, it's light blue appearance is based on the Famicom guide look.

Dragon Quest Treasures[edit]

The windbraker is Treasure No. 246 in the Key Items category and can be found on the Maneland. Its base value is 800,000 gold.
