The Frogface is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series. Introduced in Dragon Quest VIII, it is a frog monster with a demonic face on its back.
Characteristics
At first glance, frogfaces are just magenta-colored frogs with two horns poking up from behind their heads. However, once attacked, they will turn around and reveal the yellow-eyed, blue-tongued face on their backs. If attacked again, they will turn back around to being primarily frogs.
As they first appear, Frogfaces pose no true threat. They can only execute a weak attack or runaway while acting as frogs. It is when the back-situated face is shown that the monster becomes dangerous: its basic attack becomes much stronger and it gains the ability to cast spells and use breath attacks.
Appearances
Dragon Quest VIII
Although quite weak in frog form, their attacks become far more dangerous when they reveal the human faces on their backs.
Frogfaces appear primarily in the Alexandria region, notably within the Tower of Alexandria. Because of the threat they can pose to low-leveled characters, especially after being provoked into showing their second faces, it is wise to try and defeat them in a single blow by either using strong abilities or psyching up to bolster attacks that normally wouldn't cut it.

Frogfaces make their second appearance, this time with their backs always facing in battle. They are rank E members of the Demon family and can be found on Fert Isle during the daytime.

Frog-monsters with strange patterns covering their bodies. When provoked to reveal the human faces on their backs, they can use powerful spells and ice attacks which damage the whole party.
Frogmen can be seen as albino Frogfaces, being more white and yellow as opposed to the magenta and blue of the lesser monster.
A far greater threat than the Frogface, and not just because of being statistically stronger, Frogmen can cast Whack when their backs are faced in battle. The same strategy that works against Frogfaces can also work on these monsters too, however, and the player will have access to sleep inducing moves and instant-death spells to make matters faster.

Frog monsters with two faces. The sight of the demonic faces on their backs is widely regarded as an omen of death by adventurers.
As is the case with its other varieties, the Killer Croaker is only threatening when made to have its back face the party. Since they can cast Thwack with their demon faces, it is highly recommended to use sleep inducing moves and attacks capable of defeating them in a single blow in order to avoid confronting their unfavorable sides.
Killer Croakers appear most frequently at nighttime and only in areas that can be accessed through flight.
