Mt. Zugzwang (エビルマウンテン Evil Mountain) is the final dungeon in Dragon Quest V.

It is located in Nadiria and houses the mountain fortress of Grandmaster Nimzo. It is the site where Madalena is held captive, forced to pray for the gate to the human world to be opened wide enough for Nimzo.

Etymology[edit]

Zugzwang (German for "compulsion to move") is a term used in chess to refer to a scenario where a player is put at a disadvantage because they are forced to make a move. It is said that a player is "in zugzwang" when all possible actions will severely weaken their position as opposed to taking no action at all.
