Ruinous shield

The ruinous shield is a recurring shield in the Dragon Quest series. This cursed black shield features an ominous design on the front. True to its name, equipping this shield will typically cause the wearer to take increased damage from many sources. In later games, it is possible to remove the curse from the shield with the use of Alchemy and some Saint's ashes.

Dragon Quest VIII

The ruinous shield is cursed and will increase damage taken from elemental attacks! It can be sold for 2,900 gold or be turned into the Metal king shield in the Alchemy Pot when combined with an Orichalcum and Saint's ashes. The shield is rarely dropped by Hell's gatekeepers. It can be found in a chest on Dark Ruin Island, only accesable with 'Fly'.
