Antidotes can be bought for 10 gold. In this game, this item can also be given to enemy monsters and not just your allied party members. This might not appear to have much purpose at a glance, but if you heal a enemy's poisoned status it has a roughly equivalent effect of giving it Ribs (which costs 300 gold), so can be useful for catching monsters, particularly in the early game. For an example of how to do this, use a [[Walking corpse|Hork]] with [[Poison Breath|PoisonGas]] to poison the monster you wish to catch, then use the antidote to heal their poison status before defeating the monster. | |||

Antidotal herb is a healing item in the Dragon Quest series. It is used to alleviate the poisoned status effect. Same effect as the Squelch spell.
Appearance
Dragon Quest II: Luminaries of the Legendary Line
First appeared in this game as the Antidote herb. Can be purchased for 8 gold coins and sold for 6. The Hero (Dragon Quest II) can't learn spells in this game, and MP conservation is quite important for the other two party members due to them being rather weak both offensively and defensively, so this item is handy to have in many portions of the game.
Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation
Starting with this game, the antidotal herb's price would be set to 10 gold. It can be sold for 7 gold. It's a good idea to have some of these when venturing into the Dreamer's tower since there are many Bubble slimes within that can poison careless players. The item becomes somewhat less useful later on if using a Priest in the party, since they learn Squelch somewhat early (level 11) and many item shops don't sell antidotal herbs.
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
Can be bought for 10 gold. Since the only character who can use Squelch in the original NES version of this game is Kiryl, who only appears in the second and final chapters, this item is arguably more useful than it is in many other games. In particular, the fourth chapter has Funghoul enemies which can poison the player and neither of the two sisters can heal poison with Squelch in the original NES version of the game.
This doesn't apply to the remakes however, as Meena was given the Squelch spell as well, which she learns at level 4.
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride
Can be bought for 10 gold. Squelch is one of the first spells the main character learns near the beginning of the game (when he reaches level 5), so the item isn't very useful here.
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation
Can be bought for 10 gold. The player doesn't get a character who can learn Squelch until Milly joins the party, which takes a while, and Bubble slimes frequently appear in the period before she joins, so the item is fairly useful in this game.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past
Can be bought for 10 gold. There are no characters in this game who can learn Squelch by leveling up normally without vocations, so carrying a few in the early stages of this game is highly recommended.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King
The antidotal herb can be purchased for 10 gold coins.
Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
Can be bought for 10 gold in every town. They drop from Bodkin fletchers, Bubble slimes, Cruelcumbers, Gastropogs, and Sacksquatches. They are used in some alchemy recipes.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age
It can be bought in all item shops for 10 gold, and is dropped by the monsters Walking corpse and Bubble slime.
Dragon Quest Monsters
Antidotes can be bought for 10 gold. In this game, this item can also be given to enemy monsters and not just your allied party members. This might not appear to have much purpose at a glance, but if you heal a enemy's poisoned status it has a roughly equivalent effect of giving it Ribs (which costs 300 gold), so can be useful for catching monsters, particularly in the early game. For an example of how to do this, use a Hork with PoisonGas to poison the monster you wish to catch, then use the antidote to heal their poison status before defeating the monster.
Dragon Quest Monsters 2
The above description for Monsters applies to this game as well.
