First appearance | Dragon Quest IX |
The Scourgette is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest IX. It is a more powerful variant of the Cruelcumber with an appearance similar to that of an aubergine. Their name is a play on courgette, a British term for zucchini, and the word "scourge".
Characteristics
Scourgettes are anthropomorphic vegetables with a goofy faces, wielding a long spear in their hands. They have purplish-indigo bodies like a Solanum melongena with pink markings on their faces and white designs tattooed on their lower bodies. The vegetables have the ability to cast explosive magic and can also revive their fellow monsters with Zing, but they are limited due to their low MP pools. As they are plant-based, the scourgettes will wilt quickly if burned down with fire attacks and spells. Their bestiary description in X states that if a scourgette loses the spear they wield, they can grow new ones from the stems on their heads and pull it out.

In-game description | These veteran vegetables are very versatile, and can batter with Boom, and resurrect perished pals with Zing. The white design on their bellies is the mark of a misspent youth. It seemed like a good idea once, but now they're not so sure. |
