Assassin's dagger
The assassin's dagger, also known simply as dagger, is a recurring weapon in the Dragon Quest series. Much like the poison needle, it has a chance to instantly kill an enemy in a single strike, but it also capable of dealing normal damage, as well.
Appearances
Dragon Quest III
Appearing only in the remakes, the assassin's dagger (known as the dagger in the GBC version) grants an attack bonus of +25, a 6% chance to instantly slay a foe, and may only be equipped by mages and thieves. There is only one in the game, and it can be found in the basement of Romaria Castle, behind a door locked by the ultimate key.
Dragon Quest VII
The assassin's dagger, originally called the dagger in the PS1 version, has an attack bonus of +30 and a style bonus of +11. It has a 12.5% chance to deal instant death to an enemy and can only be equipped by Maribel. Assassin's daggers can be purchased from various shops for 1,500 gold and sold for 750 gold. They can also be won as prizes from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.
Dragon Quest VIII
The assassin's dagger has an attack bonus of +37 and a 6% chance to deal instant death to an enemy. It can only be equipped by Jessica and Red in the 3DS version. Note: using Jessica's Sudden Death technique when the dagger is equipped will not increase the likelihood of the skill's success. It can be sold for 1,250 Gold Coins.

Dragon Quest IX
A killer cutter that in the right hands can fell a foe in a single strike The assassin's dagger adds +54 to the character's attack, and can be alchemized by combining a Deadly nightblade with a Poison needle, and two bolts of Evencloth. The chance of inflicting instant death, 6%, is not influenced by the equipped character's deftness attribute.
