The Gaia dragon is a species of red, bipedal dragons introduced to the series in the tenth game. Calamitous cousins of the more common Liege lizards, the Gaia dragons are long forgotten evils that dwell in subterranean depths and are capable of eradicating entire countrysides.

Etymology
Gaia is the Greek personification of the Earth, the name being used in reference to the species' habitat being below ground when not rampaging.
