Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland 3D (ドラゴンクエストモンスターズ テリーのワンダーランド3D) is a remake of the original Dragon Quest Monsters. It was released in 2012 for the Nintendo 3DS. Just as in the original, it stars a young Terry from Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation as the Hero.

In 2018, an enhanced version was released on Cell phones as Dragon Quest Monsters: Terry's Wonderland SP.

Story[edit]

The game begins with young Terry and Milly living peacefully in their house, in the days before Dragon Quest VI, when Terry and Milly were just children. When they go to bed at night, Terry gets up and goes into the next room. A strange monster then appears from a dresser kidnaps Milly and then vanishes back into the dresser he came from. Soon after, another monster, similar to the kidnapper, appears from the same dresser looking for Milly, but is surprised to learn that she has already been taken away. The monster, called Fluffy, then asks Terry if he would like to find out where his sister and the kidnapper are, and to follow him to the Kingdom of GreatTree. Fluffy and Terry both go into the dresser and Terry then finds himself in an unknown land. He meets the king and receives Slib the slime, his first monster to train. If Terry wins the Monster Trainers' Starry Night Tournament, he will be granted a wish. So Terry sets out with his team to explore the many monster dungeons to win the tournament and rescue his sister.

New features and system alterations[edit]

  • There are now 609 strange, exciting and powerful monsters to breed and command in battle.
  • The game supports stereoscopic 3D visuals.
  • The game follows the new system standards set by Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, with the monster synthesis replacing breeding and monsters utilizing talent sets instead of learning individual abilities one by one, among other changes.
  • The party size limit has been increased from the traditional three monsters to four, greatly expanding the number of strategies for gigantic monsters that occupy three slots in the party by having a partner to work with instead of fighting solo.
  • The X and XY versions of monsters has been third rank, available if two monsters of the same species with a + value of sum of 100 or more are combined. The resulting monster will have all stats raised by 20%, compared to an XY counterpart of the same level.
  • All A rank and lower monsters from Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Professional can be transfered into Terry's Wonderland 3D with their stats and talents intact. Higher ranking monsters are excluded because not every monster from those ranks in J2 Pro appears in this game.
  • New types of monster food beyond beastie bites have been added.

Re-releases[edit]

On November 7, 2018, the game was re-released on cell phones as Terry's Wonderland SP.[1] This version included several tweaks and new features:[2] The general structure of the game was unaltered, but the following additions were included:

  • Stereoscopic 3D is no longer available due to hardware limitations.
  • Two new features that allow players to quickly collect rewards: "Auto-Battle", which immediately ends a battle with a simulated outcome for experience points and gold; and "Easy Adventure", which simulates a run through a previously-completed dungeon for experience, gold and even monsters.
  • A ranked competitive multiplayer mode.
  • Monsters will fully recover their HP and MP upon leveling up
  • New monsters were added, including those from the recently released Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age were added, bringing the total up to 650. Several of the monsters are pallet swaps.
  • Monster synthesis has been modified the species of the components are always an option when combining, and the phoenix staff has been removed.
  • A new bonus area called El Dorado.
