Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, as it's title implies, is a full remake of Dragon Quest III in Team Asano's famed HD-2D style which fuses high-quality pixel art with 3D models. It was originally announced as part of the 35th series anniversary celebration on May 27th of 2021, and later reintroduced alongside HD-2D remakes for the other titles in the Erdrick trilogy.

Unlike previous remakes of Dragon Quest III, the HD-2D remake offers a much modern vision of the original title with an expanded and much vibrant world, with additional scenarios, voice acting, new vocations, and modern Dragon Quest series features such as battle tactics or faster battle settings.

Changes

Among the most notable changes between this remake and the previous versions of the game we can find:

  • New scenarios supervised by Yuji Horii.
  • Reimagined locations and high quality sprites.
  • Orchestral soundtrack.
  • Fully animated monsters.
  • New vocation: Monster Master.
  • The battle menu now lists Spells and Abilities.
  • Weapon changes are visible in battle.
  • Battle tactics, available for the first time in Dragon Quest III.
  • Faster battle settings, as seen in recent Dragon Quest titles like the 3DS release of DQVIII or in the international releases of DQXI.
  • Increased language support: English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, (European) Spanish, and LATAM Spanish.
    • Dragon Quest III had not yet been translated into most of these languages prior to this remake.
  • Voice acting support: English and Japanese.
