Champion
The Champion (ゴッドハンド, Godhand) is a high ranking physically-oriented vocation in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VII. Starting with the Nintendo 3DS remake of VII, the Champion's design is heavily inspired by East Asian mythology.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The power of the heavens flows through the Champion, infusing their very being with divine energies. In order to become a Champion, one must master the Gladiator and Paladin vocations. Champions enjoy the highest strength boost of any vocation, and do not suffer the wisdom reduction that plagued gladiators. This is not to imply that champions can only focus on offense--the class enjoys a surprisingly varied amount of support abilities.

Dragon Quest Walk[edit]
Champions were added to the game on September 27th, 2022 as the first special vocation that exceeds advanced vocations. A character can become a Champion if they have reached level 70 or higher as both a Gladiator and a Paladin. A banner was also held from September 27th to November 3rd, 2022 with special equipment that allows players to look like the Champion's new design.
Their weapons of choice include one-handed Swords, Axes, Spears, and Claws. The vocation's first trait is God Rage, which gives them a chance to increase their slashing, physical skill, and breath damage by 40% at the start of the turn while their second is God Guard, which allows them to take damage in the place of an ally and potentially survive fatal damage with 1 HP remaining. Their third trait, God Chain, increases the Champion's critical hit rate and guard rate considerably when both God Rage and God Guard are activated.

- For the Nintendo 3DS version of Dragon Quest VII, the Champion's design was based directly on the Four Heavenly Kings of Buddhist mythology.
- Many of the PSX accolades come from the hierarchy of angels in Christian tradition.
- Thrones are the givers of God's justice.
- Cherub (plural Cherubim) are a rank of angels second highest in the hierarchy. They are guardians sent by God to protect.
- Seraph (plural Seraphim) are the highest rank of angels. They sing praises to God.
