Gamigin, known as "Horse Devil" in Japanese, is a monster that first appeared in Dragon Quest V. It is a grey monster with a humanoid anatomy possessing traits of a horse (its face), a goat (its horns and beard), an ox (its tail) and a bat (its wings). It is the weakest member of its monster family, which also includes Samigina and Orobas, and the first of these monsters that players will typically square off against.

Etymology[edit]

Gamigin is the name of the fourth demonic entity described in the Lesser Key of Solomon. It is a marquis of hell that initially appears as a small horse that transforms into a hoarse-voiced man shortly after being summoned. In Alister Crowley's personal translation of the tome, the demon's name is spelled as Samigina and thus this alternate name was granted to Gamigin's pallet swap.
