Ryu is a minor character in Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

The son of Hotto's High Priestess Miko, he and his mother battled the dragon Tatsunaga in Mount Huji at some point prior to the events of the story. Though the beast was slain, it breathed a foul fog that enveloped Ryu and caused him to transform into another Tatsunaga. Not wanting to harm her son, Miko stalled for time by demanding that the people of Hotto offer human sacrifices to the mountain while she tried to learn how to use her magic mirror, which supposedly had the power to restore a person's true appearance.
In Act 2, Atsuo and Atsuko help to uncover Miko's deception and she is eaten by the Ryu-Tatsunaga while wearing her mirror, making it impossible to save Ryu. The party defeats Tatsunaga in Mount Huji and Ryu's soul is freed. Not knowing his mother has already died, the lad's last words before departing are that he hopes to meet with her again.
In Act 3, the party is able to help Miko repair her mirror with lumen essence and Ryu is successfully returned to his true self.
