Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]
In the past, Erik and Derk stole the Red Orb, a royal treasure of Heliodor. After Erik's imprisonment, Derk retrieved the Orb from its hiding spot and returned it to the authorities, using the reward money to set up shop in the ritziest part of town and funneling his profits toward bribing the castle guards to allow Erik an easier escape. After a confrontation with Erik, who initially assumed that his old friend had sold him out for personal profit, Derk explains to the Hero and Erik that the Orb has been taken to the Kingsbarrow.
Like many Heliodorians, Derk and his wife can be found taking refuge in The Last Bastion in Act 2. He now runs a more conventional item shop that the player can buy from.
In Act 3, Derk can be recruited to assist in the rebuilding of Cobblestone. If invited, he opens a shop that sells various powerful and expensive equipment such as the Pirate king's coat.
Trivia[edit]
- Derk is one of the few characters from the Heliodor Region whose English name is not derived from a mineral. Instead, like Hendrik, Derk is a Dutch given name, suggesting a possible connection to Zwaardsrust.
- Derk's store in Heliodor seems to sell luxury goods, and is not a functional shop that the player can use.
- As a portly merchant dressed in striped white clothes with a surprisingly beautiful wife, Derk bears more than a passing resemblance to Torneko Taloon.
- Derk appears in the Elegy of Thieves prequel manga along with Erik.
