Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]
Doge Rotondo is a short, rotund, balding, middle-aged merchant not unlike Rodrigo Briscoletti. He is beloved by the people of Gondolia for striking deals with many of the world's kingdoms and bringing prosperity to the port town. The Doge is also the patron of the world-famous Signor Universo competition, and was apparently its first ever winner.
When the party first visits Gondolia, they discover that the town's docks are closed due to the ongoing Signor Universo competition. While Sylvando and the twins take in the town, the impatient Erik takes the Hero to visit Doge Rotondo. The Doge has bought into Heliodor's "Darkspawn" propaganda, however, and slams the door in the pair's faces after catching a glimpse of the Hero.
The party then discovers the Doge's son Placido, whose voice was stolen by Sir Jasper. They visit the Grotta della Fonte to acquire the sacred water needed to make Birdsong nectar and are able to cure the boy, but run into trouble with Jasper and his Heliodorian soldiers. The Doge is immensely grateful to the party for curing his son, and organizes Gondolia's merchant fleet to frighten off the Tentacular that Jasper summons to hinder the Luminary's escape.
In Act 2, the Doge provides refuge to the mermen of Nautica, who washed up on the town's shore after Alizarin's destruction of their undersea kingdom.
