Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]
Gustaf was a tall, slender old man with a long nose and a longer white beard. Walking with a wooden staff and with a pointed hat incorporated into his crown, he maintained a distinctly wizardly appearance.
Having died before the story began, King Gustaf is only seen in visions or illusions of the past. Most prominently, he was visiting Dundrasil on the night of its fall to attend the Colloquy of Kings, an event briefly seen during the game's opening cutscene and later explored by the Hero in a vision. During this meeting, Gustaf participated in the character test of King Irwin, playing along with King Carnelian's pretense that the Kings considered the Luminary to be a serious threat and intended to kill him to postpone the appearance of a great evil.
Gustaf also appears in Rab's intermission chapter in the Definitive Edition, once again in Dundrasil.
