"ELDER LIVES FOR ALL TIME. SEES ALL. SLEEPS MUCH. WAKES SELDOM."

—a Watcher

Eegoltap is the elder of the Watchers in Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. He is an ancient being who has lived since the Age of Heroes, though most of his time is now spent dozing off.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age[edit]

Eegoltap is a Watcher with olive green skin and bushy white eyebrows and a full beard. He dresses in the typical robe of his people, though with a starburst pattern on the front instead of the usual circle, and he carries a silver staff with an unnaturally hovering blue sphere.

The elder does not appear until the game's third act, since the Havens Above are not visited in Act 1 and are mostly destroyed in Act 2, with Eegoltap and nearly every other Watcher presumed dead.

In Act 3, the party is summoned before Eegoltap when they first visit the Havens Above, but the elder is asleep, so junior Watchers tell the story of Erdwin and his companions' struggle against Calasmos in his stead. Eegoltap wakes up briefly to announce that the "seedlings of Yggdrasil know all", then drifts off again, but the younger Watchers take his meaning and usher the party to the Temple of Dawn. Eegoltap reawakens and enters the temple once the Hero has acquired the Guiding Light, and uses an incantation to restore the party's power to the heights they reached before the Hero turned back time. After reaffirming the importance of the Luminary, he collapses back to sleep and is unceremoniously carried off.

Once the party have visited all of the seedlings and seen visions of Morcant's betrayal and Serenica's ultimate fate, they return to Eegoltap and break the news to him. He provides the party with the Wheel of Time and sends them to meet Serenica at the Tower of Lost Time, asking them to send her his regards. Unsurprisingly, after this effort he falls back to sleep.
