Samshin

From Dragon Quest Wiki

Samshin is one of the four summonable spirits tied to the skill of the same name. As with her comrades, she is a spectral consciousness that given a physical manifestation through the power of the summoning ritual.

Appearance and Personality[edit]

Samshin has had the most drastic change in appearances out of the four spirits. In her debut in 1995 she was depicted as jet black figure wearing sinister armour, wielding two curved swords, and wearing a blue cape. In the 2013 Nintendo 3DS remake of VII she was redesigned to resemble a young woman with blond pigtails wearing eclectic armour and fighting with a curved sword in her left hand with a dagger in her right.

Samshin's origin was revealed in a V-Jump guidebook column for VI titled DQ Kids, where in Yuji Horii explains that Samshin was once a knight whose two-handed swordsman style left him undefeated in battle, faithfully serving his queen with a righteous heart before being killed in a political conspiracy that destroyed the kingdom. Samshin's devotion to knightly conduct allowed his consciousness to remain in the physical world as a spirit to be invoked by those in need.

It should be noted that Samshin was referred to as a man in this column, but all recent material has depicted the character as a woman.

Appearances[edit]

Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]

Samshin requires her summoners to be at level 35 before she can materialize. Her HP is 550, MP is 40, attack is 250, defence is 190, and her agility is 150. She can cast Kasap and knows several swordplay techniques, being Dragon Slash, Flame Slash, Hatchet Man, Lightning Slash, and Undead Undoer. Samshin has an excellent AI and will not cast Kasap on monsters with a high resistance, instead utilizing which of her skills would be most effective against the target. She also has an incredible evasion rate of 1/4th (25%).

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]

Samshin possesses the same stats, abilities, and level requirement as in VI.

Dragon Quest Monsters & Dragon Quest Monsters 2[edit]

Samshin, dubbed Samsi in the Eidos localization, can be summoned directly via the SamsiCall skill.
