The ruinous shield is a recurring shield in the Dragon Quest series. This cursed black shield features an ominous design on the front. True to its name, equipping this shield will typically cause the wearer to take increased damage from many sources. In later games, it is possible to remove the curse from the shield with the use of Alchemy and some Saint's ashes.
