The High roller is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest VIII. It is a vicious beast that wears a ferocious mask over its eyes. Its name is a play on the gambling term of the same name.
Characteristics[edit]
High rollers are enormous purple-skinned beasts with an appearance similar to a great ape with small blue wings on its back, spikes on top of its head, and a small mask that covers its numerous eyes. Like their less powerful cousins, the high rollers will roll their eyes to two different effects. If they roll a one, the high roller will become serious and their complexion changes to a deep scarlet red. They become much more dangerous, having the ability to land desperate attacks and devastate adventurers with their Kaboom spell. If they roll a six, the beasts will summon a bomboulder to aid them in battle. They are also able to heal themselves and only themselves with their magic.
