The heavy armour is a recurring suit of armour in the Dragon Quest series that first made its appearance in Dragon Quest VI. It is an enormously large set of unpolished, beaten metal plates that protects the wearer against fire and ice damage due to the thickness of the material used. As a consequence, the armour lives up to its name and can only be equipped by the largest and strongest characters—another result is that the suit is astoundingly uncool looking and will drop the style and charm of anyone who wears it by a considerable degree.
Appearances[edit]
Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation[edit]
The heavy armour provides +50 points to a character's defense at the cost of -30 points to their style. It reduces breath damage by 10 points, and may be worn by the Hero, Carver, Terry, Amos, Lizzie, and Goowain.
Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past[edit]
The heavy armour has the same parameters as in the previous game: it can be equipped by the Hero, Ruff, Sir Mervyn, and Aishe. Heavy armour can be purchased in Providence, Nottagen, and Rucker Castle for 9,500 gold and sold for 4,750. It can also be won as a prize from the Lucky Panel at the Casino.
Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King[edit]
The heavy armour has a defence bonus of +52, and negates 15 points of breath damage. Only Yangus can wear it, and it can be bought for 5000 Gold Coins in Argonia once the bazaar starts. It can be upgraded into bandit mail in the Alchemy Pot by combining it with a bandit axe and bandit's grass skirt.
