In the original NES version, a Whackolyte (known as "Evil Clown" in the old localization) can be fought in Lorasia Castle. It is an optional fight that the player can elect to skip if they so choose. It carries the Lightning staff when the player defeats it. In the remakes, they were replaced by a Wrecktor (known as "Magus" in the old localization of DQII for Game Boy Color).
