First appearance | Dragon Quest IX |
The Shivery shrubbery is a recurring monster in the Dragon Quest series, first appearing in Dragon Quest IX.
It is a variant of the Leafy larrikin that resides in icy regions, being more reminiscent of a snowflake than a plant.
Characteristics
Shivery shrubberies are monsters with a singular red eye in the center of their five-pointed snowflakes. It has five stubby limb-like roots, each wearing Japanese geta sandals, and it wears a kilt roughly made from red leaves in the middle of its body. Unlike its fellow leaf monsters, the shivery shrubbery belongs to the Elemental family. It drains magic from unfortunate adventurers, then attempts to repeatedly freeze them with its ice magic.

Dragon Quest X
Shivery shrubberies appeared from the beginning of the game. They are slightly weaker this time around, only being able to cast Crack and have lost their ability to cast Drain Magic. The ice monsters are still able to call upon others of its kind to assist them in battle.
Etymology
- Shivery is derived from the word Shiver; I.E. to tremble when cold.
